For the "Diode" laserists this product will be an attractive option for their low power, slow devices.
Etches and cuts very eaisly, with clean edges and a reasonably fine surface for further finishing or painting.
Given its lightweight construction it makes shipping a little cheaper and as such a winner over thicker materials.
Crafters will be impressed with the product as it's good for small projects where weight adds to the bottom line cost of each item on postal charges,
C02 users should note that if etching low power and higher than usual speed may be preferred to give good results without penetration through the material. As usual test runs to determine ideal settings are essential, but for an 80w machine with a 50mm focal length lens running at 45mm/sec for line etch at 10-12% power suffices. Cut through at 60% power at 40mm/sec works well.
Refine as always to suit your machine power and condition of tube, cleanliness of mirrors and lens.
This product sands down well for a really fine finish using 200 grit paper, plus it takes the vast majority of acrylic or oil based paint nicely. Overseal with a clear spray finish of your choice for a good end result.
I needed this for a model-making project, and it didn't disappoint: well-packaged, in a convenient size and crucially, flat.
As rotary machine engravers we already have a main supplier for our material but from time to time we need half sheets of special colours or finishes and as our main supplier only sells full sheets Hobarts is the perfect cost effective solution for our needs. Although primarily designed for laser we have found the material to engrave very nicely by rotary engraving.
I've used this in the US and so glad I found it here, great product, good price and fantastic results
