Premier MDF prices reducing

With effect from Tuesday 15 April, prices for Premier MDF will be reducing between 16% and 20% for the next 3 months.

We understand from the manufacturer that this reduction will last for at least 3 months but is dependent on current import tariffs remaining.

    Laser cutting of Polypropylene

Review given here is based on using a laser to cut out designs.
Material has a slight texture on one side and smooth on the other. Using a laser I tested cutting on the textured side. It takes a while to find the right speed/power settings to cut smoothly. In the first instance I just created a square 10mm wide and played with the settings until it cut through cleanly. If the settings are not right for your particular laser, the material will rebind on the cut as it melts. On doing more intricate cuts with cuts almost 1mm apart, the original settings were too high and had to be dialled down to prevent warping and melting. Once the settings were satisfactory, I achieved quite good results. I will use this material to create window frames for models for my personal use.
Recommend for laser cutting but ensure you get your settings right.

    3.0mm MDF (sanded)

Sample of 3.0mm sanded MDF was accurate to stated thickness. Surface texture was quite visible unlike the harder 2.0mm MDF.
After applying Rustins MDF sealer the surface fibres were quite prominent and would require sanding smooth and further applications of sealer if a smooth finish is required. As I mainly use the very smooth and hard 2.0mm MDF for my laser cut kits, and a smaller amount of 3.0mm it should be satisfactory for most applications.
3.2mm (1/8") MDF has a smoother unsanded finish if thickness isn't critical as it is for my kit designs.
