Cardinal Newman School - Kelly - Head of Art and Design
We just wanted to email to say what a great job your staff did today.
They were prompt, professional and efficient.
I look forward to hearing from you in September to organise the next service.
Sheldon Academy, Chippenham, Wilts - Mike Chrystal - Senior DT Technician
Our new laser cutter was installed to our complete satisfaction for a very competitive price that included a service contract that was very comprehensive.
I would recommend Hobarts Laser Supplies Ltd as a thoroughly professional company and a pleasure with whom to do business”.
Whitgift School, Croydon - Andrew Seal – Head of Department
“We look forward to continuing our relationship with Hobarts which is now in its 10th Year“
Culford School, Suffolk - Ian Devlin - Head of Design & Technology
It is not every day that you get to buy and install a new laser cutter (VLS 3.5). The team at Hobarts were very helpful from first contact to installation taking the time to ensure we were buying the right piece of equipment for our needs. The process of delivery, installation and training happened very efficiently and smoothly. The machine runs quickly and quietly enabling us to work and teach right next to it whilst it is operating. Both staff and pupils are delighted with the new addition to our resources.”
Frome Community College, Somerset – Jill Hiron - Design Technology Technician
Some adjectives to describe Hobarts: Helpful, obliging, efficient, value for money, helpful, well organised, professional, friedly, helpful, approachable, reliable, trustworthy, helpful!
I can recommend Hobarts whole heartedly. We bought our first laser cutter 6 years ago and throughout that time the post sales service that Hobarts provides has been first class. They will always try to keep costs down so if we have a problem they will initially try to fix it over the phone, but if they do have to send out an engineer he will go through everything with us carefully and clearly so a repair often turns into a training course!
It is such a pleasure to find a company these days that provides such a high level of customer service. Oh, and did I mention that they are very helpful!
St. Catherine's, Isle of Wight - Suzanne Hudson - Director of Development
The team asked me to forward their grateful thanks for your training. They thought you were fab and indeed Kelly dragged me and the Principal down to the Tech room this morning to show me how everything works - he wanted to demonstrate how one could etch a Jaffa cake but I think that is because if he made a mistake he would have to eat it!
I think the laser cutter will be more than fully utilised by our children and young people participating in Technology. As you can imagine for young people with communication disabilities design and all things visual can be extremely effective.
Thank you again. If you ever find yourself down on the Island, please pop in and say hello.
Highcliffe School, Dorset - Simon Nicholls
We received delivery of our V-460 Laser a few months ago. Our experience with both the product and Hobarts service has been extremely positive. Hobarts supported us during the selection process of such a significant piece of equipment and listened to our expectations and needs making recommendations to satisfy our requirements. The installation process, carried out by one of Hobarts engineers, was thorough and left us able to use the product confidently.
Since installation the laser has proved reliable and rapid and evoked an 'awe and wonder' response from the students when watching it in action. Hobarts are also always happy to assist with individual requests based on material cutting issues etc and we are very happy that we selected the Hobarts Laser for Highcliffe School.
Plymouth High School for Girls, Plymouth - Barry Scaffold
Since we purchased the laser from Hobarts, it has enhanced our Design and Technology subject both with design and throughput. It has proved extremely flexible with a variety of materials from acrylic to wood and fabric, being used by the Textiles department for cutting fabric designs, Graphics for card nets and Materials for a wide variety of design work.
It is used from year 7 right through to year 13 and helps to produce quality design work extremely accurately.
The laser has proved to be an extremely flexible tool and is so popular that we run a lunch time LASER CLUB. This helps to increase the students understanding of technology and makes technology a fun subject.
Our laser has proved to be both robust and reliable, with excellent technical support and advice readily available from Hobarts.
Nottingham Trent University - Paul Roach
Hobarts has been great in helping us to find the equipment that suits us best. The demonstration day allowed us to get a hands-on feel for the laser system and what we could do with it, which was supported by the sales team running numerous samples for us to get the best results we could for our slightly less than standard requirements. The Hobarts team were really nice to work with, being eager to help and excited about what we wanted to do. This has carried though not only until the sale and delivery of the laser, but also the after-sales care.
Our system has been set-up in our new physics laboratories here at Nottingham Trent University in the Centre for Effective Learning in Science (CELS) building. One of the aims of this building is to promote a new image for science within the higher education and school communities. School children are brought into the University and are shown that science is exciting, relevant and more accessible than ever. We prize our new laser system from Hobarts to play a part in this, demonstrating that science is fun.
I look forward to working with Hobarts in the future. A fantastic team!
Whitgift School, Croydon - Robert Johnstone
Hobarts is a tremendously friendly company. They deliver on time, within budget and give many extras both as part of the 'agreed deal' but also because they are just nice people! The machine has been super efficient; easy to maintain; easy to use and just as important - safe to use. The addition of a rotary attachment has enabled one U6th student in particular opportunities to create an exciting water feature which incorporates a long helical screw form enabling bubbles to be 'chased' up a tall, clear tube. We have inculcated the laser into all areas of the Design Technology curriculum at Whitgift - for example, Y9 students have designed clock faces and personalised storage containers.
Certainly, in the relatively short time we have had the Hobarts laser we have found our project opportunities expanding to such an extent that we are in the process of restructuring our KS3+4 PoS to accommodate the type of quality end product now available.
We have just received our first yearly service and have been given a clean bill of health. Hopefully the first of many in the years to come!
Westlands School, Sittingbourne - Giles Thompson
If you are looking to buy a laser cutter of any size Hobarts is number one in my book.
When I was given the go ahead to purchase some new CNC equipment for my department I was overwhelmed by the choices. I didn't want to buy anything that was going to be out dated in a few months, I needed a machine that was going to last, easy to use and within a price range.
Hobarts sales staff were second to none, they were happy to discuss my needs and find me a machine that was suitable and would grow with the department. After sales and service has been fantastic and have been there when we need them to answer all our questions. The Laser was delivered in a very professional manner and the inset received was a full day of instruction.
A great company with very friendly good people – a pleasure to do business with.
St. Anselm's Catholic School, Canterbury - John Perkins
Selecting Hobarts was an excellent choice as they gave invaluable advice prior to the purchase, through the installation process and then with the subsequent initial training.
No other piece of equipment that I have acquired in over 39 years of teaching Design and Technology has had the same dramatic effect on our curriculum and the quality of our outcomes. Students are fascinated by the process and have raised the quality of their CAD work to meet the potential of the laser cutter.
It is incredibly reliable, accurate and robust and easily withstands constant daily use as it is so easy to teach from KS3 onwards. Older students can use it quite independently from staff involvement.
I am always confident that the friendly team at Hobarts is always ready to provide quick support whenever it is needed.
St. Augustine’s Technology College, Trowbridge - Kieran Walsh
The Universal Machine we bought from Hobarts has produced consistently excellent results on a wide range of materials.
The technical support has been second to none and the team at Hobarts has dealt with all enquiries and problems quickly and professionally. I would highly recommend Hobarts to any school considering buying a laser cutter.
Home Office Scientific Development Branch, St Albans - Mark Lynch
We've found the laser to be an extremely versatile piece of kit and as a result have used it in a range of applications we initially did not envisage. It complements our existing traditional machine-shop equipment and has even made us reconsider the manufacture of a number of parts in plastic, which have historically been made in metal.
We have been very pleased with the excellent level of service Hobarts has provided. They have been both prompt and informative. Likewise the training they supplied enabled our technicians to be productive immediately.
Bishop Perowne, Worcester - Dave Tortise, Technician
Since taking delivery of a Hobart’s VLS3.60 12 months ago, attainment at all levels in Design and Technology have increased dramatically.
Students have taken to the challenge that a laser cutter offers, and have exceeded expectations. From starting with simple two dimensional products like, drinks coasters and clocks, to three dimensional products which include bird boxes for blue tits, robins and nuthatch, storage units and children’s games.
We have strong Enterprise groups who have developed ideas and turned them into saleable items, running craft stalls at the prestigious Worcester Christmas Fair.
They have also sold their products at numerous Primary School Craft Fairs around the local area. From simple Christmas tree decorations to intricate tea-light holders and larger potpourri containers, the scope and potential is only limited by ones imagination.
Bishop Perowne designed and produced some Diwali items which included hanging decorations laser etched onto acrylic, as well as large tea-light holders. Since being used at home, they have been sent to India to be enjoyed by family members.
Items have been designed and produced as souvenirs to promote the colleges musical productions; student prizes; awards; room signage; mementos to commemorate the Queens Diamond Jubilee; for students who performed for the Queen at The Hive in Worcester; a local scout groups visit to a Jamboree – the list is extensive.
Our laser – affectionately known as ‘Lizzie’ took part in Mo-Vember helping to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
Bishop Perowne has also taken commissions to laser cut products for Gordonstoun School in Scotland – yes the very school Prince Charles attended. Gordonstoun had developed Celtic crosses produced by the old fashioned method of using the traditional Design and Technology tool, the router.
Taking almost a day to produce and clean one three part Celtic cross, we were able to cut that time down drastically to a matter of minutes. This has resulted in orders from Gordonstoun valued at close to £1000. Bishop’s has also been commissioned to produce smaller items for a further project currently under development.
A project run in resistant materials encourages students to design a simple table to be constructed out of three pieces of wood. Some students, seeing the intricate work that can be cut with the laser have designed a stencil to adorn the top of their table.
We are also developing some items for a local craft entrepreneur who we met a small craft fair.
The value of using a laser cutter is beneficial across the curriculum. Stencils have been designed and cut for art and textiles, and the potential to produce teaching aides for all subjects has proved that the investment was justified, and continues to benefit and enhance students work alongside outside commissions.
We can recommend Hobarts without reservation. Their care, professionalism and service are laudable.
